Death To The King Size of the Day: Mars announced yesterday it plans to phase out the King Size versions of its beloved candy bars by 2013 as part of a plan to reduce the number of calories in each of its snacks to 250.
That means the regular-size versions of such candy bars as Snickers and Mars, which are both currently above 250 calories, will be forced to lose a portion of their girth in order to shave off the extra calories.
A Mars spokesperson said the King Size will likely be replaced with a small bag containing two to four “Fun Size” bars, which will “enable sharing or saving a portion for later.”
Certain candies such as Twix and M&M’s won’t be reduced in size as they already meet the 250-calorie requirement.
